Looking Back and Moving Forward

As the dust settles on our 4th-anniversary celebrations, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey that has brought Virteffic to where it is today. What started as a dream for independence and flexibility has grown into a thriving business with a solid team, a diverse client base, and a bright future ahead.

The Beginning

The idea for Virteffic was born out of my desire for something different—something that offered more freedom and control over my professional life. After 15 years in corporate roles, I decided it was time to take a leap of faith and start my own business. It was a scary decision, leaving a stable and respected position for the unknown, but I knew it was the right choice. 

The early days of Virteffic were filled with uncertainty. I wasn’t sure if the business would succeed, so I gave myself a year to make it work. If it didn’t, I was prepared to move on and find a new job. But as the first year came to an end, it became clear that there was demand for our services—so much so that I decided to take the next leap and hire my first employee in September 2021. This was another scary phase, but it marked the beginning of Virteffic’s growth as a team. 

Growing a Team, Building a Culture

As Virteffic grew, I focused on creating a work environment unlike any I had experienced before. Having found the “people aspect” more challenging than the technical in my previous roles, I prioritised building a supportive and flexible work culture. At Virteffic, everyone is in control of their own hours. This flexibility has been key to attracting people who might not thrive in a traditional 9-5 office role. It’s a central part of our culture, and I’m proud that we can offer this to all our team members.

We also set up a sport, social, and well-being committee to ensure our team feels valued. Regular activities, giveaways, and open forums have fostered a sense of community, even when we work remotely. Sharing our success and maintaining open communication has been crucial to our growth.

Client Relationships: The Foundation of Our Business

One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been the relationships we’ve built with our clients. Many of them have been with us since the beginning, and the trust they’ve placed in us is humbling. We continue to onboard new clients, many through referrals—a testament to the quality of our work and the relationships we’ve nurtured. Our clients aren’t just business partners; they’re part of the Virteffic family. Their success is our success, and we are committed to supporting them every step of the way.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Virteffic 

As we look to the future, I’m incredibly excited about the opportunities on the horizon. We continue to expand our services beyond minute drafting to include corporate governance consultancy, training courses, and board effectiveness reviews. These new offerings will allow us to meet our clients’ evolving needs and deliver even greater value.

On a personal level, this journey has allowed me to achieve the independence and flexibility I always wanted. My goal was to create a business that allowed me to balance work and personal life, particularly with my husband now retired after 37 years as an air traffic controller. Today, I’m living that dream—working hard while in Jersey and travelling the world during my downtime. None of this would have been possible without the incredible team we’ve built.

Moving forward, my focus is on building strong leaders within the company. To continue our growth, we need to empower others to take on key roles in client management, operations, and finance. This will ensure that Virteffic is well-positioned for the future, with a team of talented individuals ready to drive the business forward.

Final Reflections 

As I reflect on the past four years, I’m most proud of the fact that I believed in myself and didn’t listen to those who said this concept wouldn’t work. I’ve pushed myself to learn new things, and I’ve always kept our clients and team members at the forefront of everything we do. None of this would have been possible without the support of my husband and a few close friends who have been cheering me on since the beginning. Their encouragement has been invaluable, and I’m incredibly grateful for their support. 

As we move into the next phase of Virteffic’s journey, I’m excited about what’s to come. We have big plans, and I’m confident that with the right team in place, we’ll continue to grow and succeed.
