Meet the Champions: Emma, Claire, and Their Dynamic Crew
Jersey, an island renowned for its picturesque beauty and vibrant community spirit, boasts a thriving rowing culture. At the heart of this passion lies the Virteffic-sponsored rowing team, led by dedicated boat owners Emma and Claire. For the past five seasons, they’ve navigated the island’s challenging races, including the arduous Sark to Jersey and Gorey to Carteret races. In 2021, they rowed around the entire island in a gruelling six-hour journey, showcasing their resilience and skill. Thanks to Virteffic’s sponsorship, their boat has been kept in top condition, ready to conquer the waters in every event.
Teamwork and Dedication: The Heart of Rowing
Rowing is a testament to teamwork, trust, and shared goals. Emma, Claire, and their crew—Steph, Kat, and Netty (the coxswain)—epitomise these values, training enthusiastically and participating in as many races as possible. This season, they showcased their talents at the Jersey Offshore Rowing Regatta on the 1st and 2nd of June and the Portlet race on the 9th of June. Their inclusivity shines as they welcome newcomers, offering them a chance to experience the joys of rowing. This team spirit extends beyond the water, with social events like pottery making and gin tasting strengthening their bonds and enhancing their overall experience. The team’s commitment to year-round training, even in Jersey’s unpredictable weather, speaks volumes about their dedication.
Racing Ahead: Anticipation for the 2024 Season
The Jersey Rowing Club’s 20 local races each season offer ample opportunities for the Virteffic team to showcase their prowess. They are now training rigorously for the Gorey to Carteret race on the 13th of July and the Sark to Jersey race on the 20th of July. Despite the 2023 season’s cancellations due to adverse weather, the team remains undeterred, eagerly looking forward to the 2024 season. A highlight on their calendar is the Herm Rocks rowing regatta, organised by the Guernsey Rowing Club. This event not only provides a platform to compete but also promotes Virteffic across the Channel Islands.
The Virteffic-sponsored rowing team in Jersey embodies community spirit, perseverance, and the joy of shared adventures, showcasing how dedication, camaraderie, and inclusivity in sport unite people and create lasting memories.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Virteffic offers charitable rates when helping charities and non-profit organisations with minutes and other admin to cover our payroll costs (e.g. not for profit-making purposes). We also donate money to charities over the year through a couple of initiatives. In addition, we support the community through sponsorships. We have sponsored Silhouette Studios in February 2022, the Jersey Raquetball festival in April 2022, a Durell Tortoise for the Trinity School in January 2023, and a rowing boat for a local team of rowers in 2023.
Positive Impact
Our sponsorships enable us to connect and engage with the local community in line with our strategic objectives. Since its inception, Virteffic has been actively involved in social and environmental initiatives. We will continue to support areas that our team feels passionate about and that align with our brand and core values.
Members of our team are also encouraged to take part in CSR and ESG activities. Donations enable us to engage our team members, meet our CSR and ESG targets, and empower our local community.
