Embracing Balance in Remote Work

Embracing Balance in Remote Work

At Virteffic, we’re committed to building a working culture that supports both professional success and personal wellbeing. As a fully remote team, we’re always looking for meaningful ways to connect beyond the screen—and our recent outdoor yoga session gave us the perfect opportunity.

A calm morning to reconnect

Led by team member Emma, the session centred on gentle movement, deep breathing and mindful relaxation. It was a welcome moment to reset, step away from our usual routines, and reconnect—with ourselves and each other.

Working from home gives us freedom and flexibility, but it can mean missing out on the spontaneous moments that naturally occur in a shared space. That’s why these in-person meetups matter. They allow us to connect as people, not just colleagues on a Zoom call.

We gathered in a quiet park on a sunny morning, surrounded by trees, birdsong and the soft warmth of the sun. It was peaceful, distraction-free, and grounding. For many of us, it was the first time in a while that we’d seen teammates in person. There were smiles, relaxed conversations, and a real sense of appreciation for simply being together.

Emma’s gentle guidance

Emma designed a session that was accessible to everyone, regardless of experience. You didn’t need to be flexible or familiar with yoga—each pose was adaptable, and the pace was slow and considered. The session included:

  • gentle stretches to ease tension in the lower back, hips and shoulders

  • simple breathwork to calm the nervous system

  • mindful movement to support mobility and awareness

  • a short guided relaxation to close

Emma’s calm and supportive approach helped everyone feel at ease. For those of us who spend much of our day at a desk, it was a physical and mental reset—a chance to give our bodies the movement they need, and our minds the stillness they often lack.

Time to pause, reflect and connect

Beyond the physical benefits, the session offered something deeper: space to slow down, breathe together and move with shared intention. These moments of collective calm help strengthen the human side of remote teamwork.

It’s easy to feel isolated when working from home—especially with the demands of deadlines, emails and video calls. Shared experiences like this are a powerful reminder that we’re not doing it alone. We’re part of a supportive and thoughtful team.

After the session, many of us stayed to chat and reflect, enjoying the opportunity to catch up in a relaxed setting. These informal moments are hard to replicate online but make a real difference to morale and connection.

A simple reset with lasting impact

By the end of the session, there was a noticeable shift in energy. We all felt lighter, more relaxed, and recharged—physically and mentally. It was a reminder that taking time out isn’t just a bonus; it’s essential. When we look after our wellbeing, we’re better colleagues, better thinkers, and better equipped to do meaningful work.

This experience highlighted the importance of balance: balancing screen time with time outdoors, mental focus with physical movement, and individual work with shared moments.

We’re incredibly grateful to Emma for leading the session, and we’re already planning our next opportunity to meet, move and reconnect.

Wellbeing at the heart of how we work

At Virteffic, we believe wellbeing should be part of how we work—not an afterthought. From flexible schedules and virtual check-ins to in-person gatherings, we’re committed to supporting our team in ways that work for remote life.

Sports, Social & Wellbeing (SSW) Committee

The wellbeing of our team has always been a core part of Virteffic’s identity. From the very beginning, Virteffic was designed to offer flexibility, autonomy, and a better life–work balance.

As the team grew beyond just Tess, our focus on looking after one another never changed. That’s why we introduced our sports, social and wellbeing committee early on—to keep wellbeing front of mind and to help the team stay connected and supported.

Our flexible working model means team members can build wellbeing into their day in a way that works for them. We also focus on a monthly wellbeing theme to keep conversations open and ensure we continue to prioritise mindfulness, health, and connection.
