Leadership is often associated with responsibility, resilience, and results. Over the past five years of building Virteffic, I have come to see leadership as something much more human. It is about trust, clarity, and creating the conditions for others to thrive.

When I launched Virteffic in 2020, I was guided by experience, ambition, and the desire to lead in a new way. Five years later, Virteffic has grown from a one-woman start-up into a trusted multi-island governance leader with a talented team supporting boards across Jersey and Guernsey. Alongside this growth, I have learned more through experience than any business book could ever offer.

Here are five lessons that have shaped my leadership, each inspired by one of the core values at the heart of Virteffic.

Efficiency: clear, timely and reliable governance support

Efficiency is not about rushing work or cutting corners. It is about clarity, focus, and consistency.

At Virteffic, we pride ourselves on providing governance support that is clear, timely, and reliable. For me as a leader, efficiency means creating systems and communication channels that empower the team to deliver high-quality results without unnecessary barriers. When processes are straightforward and expectations are transparent, clients gain confidence that their needs will always be met with precision and care.

Confidentiality: trust is built quietly

In governance, confidentiality is a foundation stone. I have also learned that discretion in leadership builds the deepest trust.

At Virteffic, we protect sensitive information with care and professionalism. Beyond the technical, confidentiality is about respect. Being consistent, discreet, and reliable in every interaction creates confidence. When people know their ideas and concerns will be handled with integrity, they feel safe to share openly. For clients, this quiet trust is what strengthens long-term relationships.

Flexibility has been a defining principle of Virteffic from the start. I believed professionals should not have to choose between balance and meaningful work, and I carry that belief into how we serve our clients.

Leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about staying curious, learning continuously, and sharing knowledge.

At Virteffic, we combine deep technical expertise with practical experience, and we believe knowledge should be shared, not hoarded. We keep up with industry changes, regulatory updates, and best practice developments, but we also learn from each other and from our clients.
