Working for Virteffic, for me, means no alarm clock, waking when my body and mind have decided they are fully rested or more often, waking to a tiny voice calling for “mummy”.
Being a full-time mum to a growing one-year-old means routines are often changing. The flexibility that Virteffic provides allows me to make my own schedule which can be suited to my daughter’s routine. I have full control to manage and tweak this accordingly as routines change. Our usual day to day looks similar in terms of routine.
Breakfast times are relaxed (albeit messy) we usually aim to sit down together to eat before my husband has to leave for work. After breakfast is play and cleanup time. Our mornings are slow but we like to get out early when we can for a walk around the country lanes as the fresh winter air really sets us up for the day. Having the freedom to determine when you work means that life is not hurried and there is no need to rush around. I am fortunate that I can really embrace and enjoy this treasured family time while my daughter is so young.
When it gets to nap time and my daughter is settled, I take the opportunity to log onto my laptop to check emails, team and client chats and attend to any work as needed. Each day varies but I also take this opportunity to check team schedules and ensure that I have everything I need to allow me to complete the tasks I have assigned myself to do later in the day. Of course, there are days when my daughter refuses to nap and that is okay as we just adjust our schedule and routine accordingly.
Working remotely does require an element of self-motivation but the beauty of working from the comfort of my own home is that I get to design my ideal work environment. There is no fighting over the air conditioning controls and the snack selection is all mine. I take a nice cup of tea in my favourite mug to my desk with me each time I turn on my laptop.
Once nap time is over and lunch is had, we head out in the car to run any errands. Another benefit of flexible working is that we can make these little trips and run these errands at times to suit us, avoiding the school run traffic and peak queue times in the supermarket.
When back home I enjoy being fully present with my daughter, soaking up all the quality time of just me and her before my husband gets home from his 9-5 and the dinner, bath and bedtime routine begins.
Once my daughter is tucked up in bed I go back to my desk and pick up the tasks I have assigned for myself. I do most of my minute drafting in the evenings as I find there are fewer distractions. I have peace of mind that all of the errands and life admin tasks have been completed during the day so I can focus on the work I’m doing. Once my work is complete I join my husband for dinner and an episode of whichever crime thriller series we are watching.
I am thankful to Virteffic for providing me the freedom and control to live my life to suit me.
