February 2024 Travel Diary – Mysore, India 🌍✨
I am Emma Logue, a dedicated virtual assistant specialising in support and administration services at Virteffic. This is the first in a series of travel blogs where you can follow my journey as I travel slowly around India, embracing the work-life balance to its fullest extent. In this travel diary update you will learn about a typical workday in Mysore: balancing remote work and a dedicated Yoga practice.
A Blissful Start🛵🧘♀️
My day begins at the crack of dawn usually around 4:30 AM. Instead of navigating through morning rush hours and crowded commutes, I make my way peacefully via scooter from my apartment to the Yoga Shala where I practice 6 days a week. I can’t say the same for the journey back home when the roads are a little more crowded, but by now, I am very familiar with the rules of the roads. Once I have finished practice, I head straight to the coconut stand situated outside the Shala for a well-deserved fresh coconut. This tranquil start to the day sets the tone for a day filled with productivity and positivity.
A Day in the ‘Office’ ☕🌴
Post-practice, armed with a cup of coffee from one of my favourite coffee shops, I retreat to the remote office space on my balcony before the temperature gets too hot. Here, the backdrop is not one of a busy office but rather a picturesque scene of palm trees swaying in the breeze and exotic birds serenading the morning – If I’m lucky I will see green parrots flying past and sometimes, even a troop of monkeys.

South Indian Feasts 🍛🤤
Around lunchtime, I will take a break and often opt for traditional South Indian cuisine such as a flavourful Dosa, a delicious crepe made with fermented rice and lentil batter served with chutney and sambar. A must-try if ever in this part of the world. Some say that Mysore has the best in all of India.
Wind Down 🎶😌
In the afternoons, I typically work for a few more hours, catching up with my colleagues back home (who have just woken up due to the time difference) before wrapping up for the evening. Sometimes, I attend a joyful Kirtan, a technique of Bhakti Yoga – a method of devotional chanting, before a peaceful early night, preparing for the new day ahead.
Sundays are for free time😎🛕
Sometimes I will cool down by the pool of a local hotel, sipping on a fresh watermelon juice or perhaps explore some of the local restaurants, temples or attractions nearby.

Remote Working – Security Requirements 🔐💼
Working remotely entails specific requirements. It is important to confirm that there will be no changes to resident tax status, i.e. being an entitled permanent resident taxpayer in Jersey. Additionally, checking the visa requirements for each country is essential. Many countries have no provisions that impose restrictions on remote workers, granting the flexibility at the employer’s discretion based on their remote working policy. Notably, some countries have recently introduced a digital nomad visa, providing extended stays for remote working professionals beyond the limitations of traditional tourist visas. 🌐✈️
The establishment of a secure work environment is paramount when working remotely, particularly when handling confidential tasks. At Virteffic, we take pride in our unwavering commitment to cybersecurity. Our laptops adhere to the highest standards of encryption and security, complemented by rigorous internal procedures designed to safeguard sensitive information.
Top-tips
In addition to our in-house security measures, here are my ‘top tips’ for staying secure whilst working remotely, particularly in a foreign country.
- Invest in a good Virtual Private Network (VPN): Encrypt your internet connection to ensure a secure environment and protect against potential cyber threats; 🛡️
- Use an Apple AirTag to track devices: Keep an AirTag in your laptop case to stay aware of its exact location while traveling, accessible through your phone. 📱
- Create a secure workspace: Ensure private and secure Wi-Fi, using a VPN when possible. Never connect to general public Wi-Fi, such as at train stations. 🏠
- Purchase a local SIM Card: Obtain a SIM card from a trusted network provider in the foreign country and use mobile data over public wifi, enhancing security as cellular networks are encrypted. 📶
These practical measures, coupled with our stringent internal security protocols at Virteffic, contribute to a robust and secure remote working experience. 🚀🔒
