Our wellbeing theme for this month is walking. We have a team who took part in the South Coast Charity Challenge on 21 May 2033. In addition, we have a relay team participating in the island walk on 19 June 2023.
At Virteffic, the well-being of our staff is a top priority. Virteffic was set up as Tess wanted more flexible working hours and a better life-work balance. Everyone who works for Virteffic is in complete control of their own hours. This opens up opportunities for those who can’t or don’t want to work in a traditional 9-5 office role.
Since we started to recruit and Virteffic grew into a team of more than just Tess, the focus has always been to look after and appreciate the team members. Our sports, social and well-being committee was set up early to help with this.
Walking
Did you know walking is considered a total body workout, all you have to do is engage your core and walk at a pace to get heat in your body? It is low impact, nice and easy on the joints, a great way to combine exercise and socialising, and it is free!
Benefits of walking
- Excellent for the cardiovascular system
- Stronger bones and improved balance
- Improved mental health
We are lucky to live on an island with so many beautiful and accessible walks, whether you want to stroll along the seafront or take a hike on the cliff paths. If you’re looking for inspiration, check out these Top 20 Hikes & Walks in Jersey.
Here are a couple of things to bear in mind when you are out walking:
Make sure you wear the correct footwear. Wear sun cream – premature ageing, wrinkles, and sun spots are no one’s friend! Even in the winter, make sure you’ve got sun cream on (especially your face), even better, wear a hat. If you’re venturing out for a solo walk, be sure to let someone know of your plans.
Getting a dose of nature is such a boost for our mood. Rain or shine. Listen to music or a podcast and get walking. Alternatively, listen to the sounds around you.
The ladies at Virteffic have started their own walking group, a fantastic way to stay connected and take in that fresh air. As a company, we took part in the South Coast Challenge charity walk in May, and we will participate in the Island Walk in June.
Sports, Social & Wellbeing (SSW) Committee
At Virteffic, the wellbeing of our staff is a top priority. Virteffic was set up to offer team members more flexible working hours and a better life-work balance.
Since we started to recruit and Virteffic grew into a team of more than just Tess, the focus has always been to look after and appreciate the team members. Our sports, social and well-being committee was set up early to help with this.
Working flexibly allows our team members to make time for their wellbeing and mindfulness on their schedule, and we have a monthly wellbeing topic focus to make sure we always keep it forefront in our minds.
