Virteffic provides governance and company secretarial support to boards, committees, governance teams and organisations across a broad range of sectors. We are looking for a Trainee Governance and Secretarial Support Officer to join our growing team and begin building a rewarding career within governance and professional services.
This role combines administration, governance activities and company secretarial support, giving you the opportunity to work within real client environments whilst developing practical experience, technical knowledge and professional confidence. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you’ll play an important role in delivering high-quality support to our clients from day one.
Every day brings something different, with opportunities to develop new skills, work across a variety of governance activities and gain experience that forms the foundation of a long-term professional career.
Why this role is different
Many trainee and entry-level roles focus almost entirely on administration. At Virteffic, you’ll gain exposure to governance, company secretarial services, board support and professional services from the very beginning.
You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of clients and sectors, gaining practical experience while receiving structured support, mentoring and guidance from experienced governance professionals. The variety of work provides continual opportunities to build your knowledge, confidence and professional judgement.
Rather than simply preparing you for an administrative role, this position has been designed as the first step within a clear governance career pathway, offering genuine opportunities to progress into governance, company secretarial and client-facing roles as your skills and experience develop.
Typical responsibilities
This is a varied role offering exposure to a broad range of governance, company secretarial and business support activities. As your experience grows, you’ll gradually take on increasing responsibility while working alongside experienced colleagues.
- Supporting meeting preparation and coordination
- Assisting with governance and company secretarial activities
- Maintaining governance records, schedules and action trackers
- Helping prepare board packs and meeting documentation
- Supporting document management and client administration
- Contributing to internal projects and operational initiatives
- Recording information accurately and maintaining organised records
- Working alongside senior team members on client delivery activities
- Helping improve processes, templates and ways of working
- Developing governance, administration and professional services skills through structured learning and practical experience
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with the right mindset, a willingness to learn and a genuine interest in building a career within governance and professional services.
You’ll ideally be:
- Organised, reliable and dependable
- Proactive, curious and eager to learn
- Comfortable working independently within a remote team
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Professional in your communication and approach
- Interested in governance, company secretarial services or professional support
- Motivated to develop new skills and build a long-term career
Previous governance experience is not essential. We place greater value on attitude, aptitude, reliability and a genuine commitment to learning and producing high-quality work.
Who this role will suit
This opportunity is ideal for someone looking to establish a rewarding career within governance and professional services.
This role may suit someone who:
- Is at an early stage of their professional career
- Is exploring a career in governance, company secretarial services or professional services
- Enjoys learning new systems, processes and ways of working
- Takes pride in producing accurate, well-organised work
- Would value exposure to boards, governance and client-facing environments
- Appreciates flexibility whilst taking ownership of their responsibilities
- Is looking for genuine long-term career development opportunities
Career development
At Virteffic, progression is based on capability, quality, reliability and the contribution you make to both our clients and the wider team.
As your experience develops, opportunities may include:
- Progression to Governance and Secretarial Support Officer responsibilities
- Increased client-facing and relationship management opportunities
- Supporting board and committee meetings
- Professional minute writing and governance support responsibilities
- Project coordination and business improvement initiatives
- Specialist governance development pathways
- Senior governance, review and quality assurance responsibilities over time
We actively invest in continuous learning, mentoring and professional development, providing clear opportunities for our team to grow their expertise, build confidence and develop rewarding long-term careers with Virteffic.
